From the 16th to 18th centuries Hoi An was a thriving international port frequented by Chinese, Dutch, French, Japanese, Portuguese and Arab traders, who came to trade in the high-quality silk still produced in the region. Today, Hoi An is a relaxing resort popular with tourists.

Take a half-day walking tour through the narrow winding streets of the ancient town centre, visiting Chua Ong Pagoda, the Chinese Assembly Hall, the 200-year old Tan Ky ancestral house and the famous Japanese Bridge. After that take a short time to learn how to make a lantern. Colorful lanterns are considered a symbol of Hoi An ancient town, people believe that hanging lanterns in front of the house will bring good luck. Through this tour you will learn how to make a lantern and bring a souvenir in your journey.

Itinerary:

Your tour guide will take you on a walk around Hoi An’s Old Town. The city was a major trading port from the 17th century onwards, and has various architectural influences from Europe, China and Vietnam. Today the city is being restored and looks exactly like it did over a century ago. The tour will take you to a historic house, the Hoi An Museum, colorful Chinese communal halls, the 400 year-old Japanese covered bridge…Wander through the Hoi An market which is filled with fresh local produces, sights, sounds and smells; visiting ancient merchants’ houses that remains architecture style and atmosphere from 17th. Wander the street stalls selling paintings, woodwork, ceramics, lanterns and much more.

Afterwards we will take you to visit a local lantern craftsman. Lanterns are the symbol of Vietnam tourism, and a big part of the local culture of Hoi An. You will be given an introduction about the history, shape, and color of the lanterns as well as the many stages of making them. You will have an opportunity to create your own lantern, decorate, pack and keep it as a souvenir from Hoi An.

Finish the tour, we will take you back to your hotel.
